A two man team from Thames Water contractors, Cappagh, arrived on site this morning and commenced hand clearing the site in the area of the sewer pipe. Cappagh Contracts supervisor arrived shortly afterwards and was very unhappy with the condition of the site and immediately closed it down on health and safety grounds; both to work crew and general public. He organised grab lorries to clear all current spoil, erection of steel fence sections around the site to protect public, and a trench box to protect crews working in the hole.
He also requested a CCTV camera to insert into the sewer pipe to establish the full extent of the damage, the results of which will determine the extent of any further excavation of the road in the vicinity of the current site. He estimates that the work will take between 2/3 days from now depending upon the results of the camera insertion.
