Chalfont Heights Estate 58th AGM – Follow up

Posted on: February 11th, 2013 by Alan Lane

At the 58th AGM for Chalfont Heights Estate, the Local Community Support Officer PCSO Roland Lobo from Thames Valley Police in Chalfont St Peter kindly presented to the residents. One of the solutions that he talked about for tracking stolen goods was a DNA Gel, which can be applied to property and then logged on a national database used by the Police.

The company who make the DNA marking Gel are called Selecta DNA and you can find out more about its use across South Bucks by clicking HERE.

Again we would like to thank Thames Valley Police for their ongoing support in crime prevention and their presence on Chalfont Heights Estate.

Halloween Message from Thames Valley Police

Posted on: October 30th, 2012 by Alan Lane

Message sent by, Jen Shraga (Police, Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), )

Worried by Halloween?  If you do not wish to be called upon “No trick or treat posters” can be downloaded from www.thamesvalley.police.uk. Remember this Halloween don’t open your door if you’re unsure who is there. Use your spy-hole, look out of a window or use your door chain.

Looking forward to Halloween?  Police on the Chiltern and South Bucks LPA want everyone to have a happy and safe time and ask parents to remind their children that some people can be scared when people knock on their door after dark; TVP ask parents to remind their children to be considerate and to respect the ‘No trick or treat’ door signs.

What are the local police doing? Operation Ghostbuster has started, a local police operation aimed preventing incidents of Anti Social Behaviour from happening, rather than dealing with the aftermath.   A large number of officers are working each evening from now until Bonfire Night, and will be out and about at locations where they feel there is the potential for trouble or are vulnerable to trouble.

For crime in progress : dial 999.  For non-emergencies call the police non-emergency number : dial 101

Residents may wish to report any low levels acts of Anti Social behaviour or incidents where they see or hear groups gathering and feel there could be problems. If the police are notified early we respond more quickly and can deal with these groups before issues escalated.

Remember the 999 number should only be used for emergencies.

Chiltern Hill Break-Ins

Posted on: October 29th, 2012 by Alan Lane

Note from George Eykyn,

As well as the police message below about a burglary in Welders Lane, I’m afraid I need to report that two homes in upper Chiltern Hill experienced break-ins to their garden sheds during the last week. In both cases the door hinges were unscrewed. Some items were taken from one of the sheds, which adjoins the field at the back of Chiltern Hill and Ellis Avenue. The neighbourhood police team has been here today. They believe the break-ins probably occurred on Tuesday evening or overnight Tues-Weds last week.

The officer here today recommended that people use irreversible screws to mount hinges and locks on their sheds. She also urged residents to keep garage doors securely shut. Anyone with information that might help the investigation into the break-ins is asked to call the non-emergency number, 101, quoting case number GA4145553/12.

Dwelling burglary on WELDERS LANE, CHALFONT ST PETER, on Monday 29th October 2012 between 12 50 – 13 25 hours. Entry was gained via the rear French doors, and a camera and jewellery was taken. Crime Ref:GA/4145958/12.

If you have any information in relation to this burglary, please contact PC Penny JEFFERYS, Local CID, Amersham Police Station  on 101, which is a non emergency police number. If you do not want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity  Crimestoppers anonymous on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.

Clocks going back time to check your locks

Posted on: October 27th, 2012 by Alan Lane

There has been a small spate in burglary offences in the Chiltern District where criminals have used an instrument to drill out rear/patio door locks. These types of locks are believed to be euro cylinder locks which are generally found on uPVC doors. This way of gaining entry is called “lock snapping” a term used to describe the ability to damage/break the internal mechanism of the Euro profile lock, allowing potential criminals to gain entry.

Lock snapping has been an issue in the past and in other areas but now we have seen a small increase in this type of offence. Over a number of years, police have worked in partnership with lock manufacturers who have worked to address lock vulnerabilities, designing and testing a new standard lock, known as TS 007. Some locks have also been awarded a Sold Secure diamond standard of SS312.

If you would like further advice on whether your door needs an upgraded lock to ensure it is up to the current standard, please seek advice from the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) who can be found at www.locksmiths.co.uk. Their website contains a section on cylinder lock vulnerability and you can search for a local affiliated locksmith. Alternatively call the MLA on 0800 783 14 98 (08:30 – 17:00 Mon-Fri).

Standards you can discuss with your locksmith:

  • If replacing your locks on your UPVC door: we recommend locks certificated to TS 007 and Sold Secure revised diamond standard of SS312. This Standard has been recognised as currently being one of the hardest attack tests for euro profile cylinders.
  • If replacing your uPVC or wooden door: we recommend door certificated to the British standard PAS 24:2012

We would also like to encourage anyone who sees any suspicious activity to contact Thames Valley Police on 101.
